So you have chosen your holiday to Turkey, the flight to Dalaman is booked & you are off to the bank to get your currency . Our advice ? Dont. That is, dont bother exchanging hundreds of pounds into lira or even to Euros. Having been a popular holiday destination for the British public for many years ( & also used to having a rather unpredictable national currency ) resorts such as Fethiye, Kalkan & Marmaris are familiar with & very welcoming of sterling. Most resort restaurants, hotels & even taxi drivers here are quite happy to accept Sterling notes ( though not Scottish notes or sterling coins ) & will return change as local currency .
In resort rates of exchange are also far more favourable than those in UK but can fluctuate daily so changing little & often is the key. A word of warning though. Think twice about exchanging money in shops as usually the higher rate they display is for purchase only transactions . Every resort will have change offices, post offices , banks etc who will have
the rate clearly displayed & more times than not no commission is payable ( ask first ! ) so stick to these where possible especially when converting travellers cheques.
The bottom line ? Bring just enough Turkish Lira to tide you over for the first few hours until you can get out to explore your resort . Who to ask about the best & safest places locally to change money ? Why your Holiday Mate representative of course ! They will be there throughout your holiday in Turkey to assist you any time you need it so make the most of them .
